Celebrating Recovery Stories from Warren County Residents

Recovery is real, and it’s happening right here in Warren County. Every day, people in our community are taking steps toward healthier, drug-free lives. Their stories remind us that recovery is not only possible, it’s worth celebrating. This spirit of Recovery in McMinnville, TN is a testament to resilience and hope.

Why Stories Matter

For too long, addiction has carried a heavy stigma. Families have suffered in silence, and individuals have often been afraid to ask for help. By sharing recovery stories, we shine a light on hope and prove that no one has to walk this journey alone. When one person finds recovery, it strengthens the entire community.

That’s why the Warren County Prevention and Intervention Coalition is proud to highlight the stories of our neighbors, friends, and family members who are walking the recovery journey. Every story is different, but together, they create a powerful message: recovery changes lives.

Trey’s Story of Hope

“I struggled with addiction for several years and thought I had my family fooled about what I was doing. Between drugs and alcohol, I no longer controlled anything that I did. Addiction was running my life. To feed my habit, I even stole from my own family, and the guilt and shame only made things worse.

Eventually, it caught up to me. I ended up going to jail for theft. Many people might think jail is a wake-up call, but the truth is, I still wasn’t ready. I didn’t stay sober while incarcerated. When it was time for me to be released, I was at a crossroads, and my mom was the one who forced me to see that.

She gave me two options: she would help me get into a recovery program that could actually help me, or she would take me straight to a homeless shelter. She told me she could no longer watch me kill myself in her own home. As tough as that was to hear, it was exactly what I needed.

On December 4, 2014, I made the choice to enter recovery. At that moment, it felt like the hardest decision in the world, but looking back, it was the most important one I’ve ever made. That day was the start of a new chapter in my life.”

Finding Strength in Recovery

The early days of recovery weren’t easy. “I had to face the reality of the damage I had caused to myself and to my family. I had to learn how to live life without the substances I thought I couldn’t survive without. But slowly, with the help of people who believed in me, I began to rebuild.”

A key part of Trey’s story is learning to trust in something greater than himself. “Since that time, I’ve had the opportunity to find a power greater than myself to guide me. I realized that I’m not the one running the show, and that gave me freedom I had never experienced before. Recovery gave me my life back, but it also gave me purpose.”

Giving Back to Others

One of the most powerful outcomes of recovery is the ability to help others. Trey has been able to use his experiences to encourage families and individuals who are struggling. “I’ve spoken to many family members with loved ones in addiction and helped walk them through how to set healthy boundaries. It’s not easy, but sometimes that tough love is what leads someone to finally reach for help, just like it did for me.”

Recovery doesn’t look the same for everyone. “Everyone’s path is different, and no one has the only solution. But I can tell you this from my experience: there is always another way. You don’t have to stay trapped in addiction. And you absolutely don’t have to do it alone.”

A Community That Supports Recovery

Stories like Trey’s remind us why the coalition’s work is so important. Recovery doesn’t happen in isolation, it thrives in community. That’s why the Warren County Prevention and Intervention Coalition works to provide access to resources, bring awareness to the issue, and create spaces where recovery can be celebrated instead of hidden.

From free Narcan distribution through our Caring Library to events like Recovery Fest, our mission is to break down barriers and build up hope. Every person who chooses recovery is another reason to keep fighting for resources, education, and support in Warren County.
