Overdose Prevention Warren County: How to Use Narcan (Naloxone)

Narcan is a safe, FDA-approved nasal spray that can reverse an opioid overdose in minutes. You do not need medical training to use it — and you cannot hurt someone by giving it to them.

4 Steps to Save a Life

  1. Call 911. Stay on the line. Tennessee’s Good Samaritan Law protects you from prosecution when you seek help.
  2. Lay the person flat on their back. Tilt their head back slightly.
  3. Insert the Narcan nozzle fully into one nostril. Press the plunger firmly until it clicks.
  4. Wait 2–3 minutes. If they do not respond, give a second dose in the other nostril. Stay with them until help arrives.

Want hands-on training? Contact the Warren County Prevention and Intervention Coalition to schedule a free Narcan training for your workplace, church, school, or family.
