Health Provider Resources

Health providers are often on the front lines of prevention and recovery. Whether you work in a hospital, clinic, pharmacy, or behavioral health setting, you have a unique opportunity to identify risks early, provide life-saving interventions, and connect patients to the care they need. Accessing comprehensive health provider resources can greatly enhance your ability to perform these duties effectively. The Warren County Prevention & Intervention Coalition is here to support you.

Recognizing Substance Misuse in Patients

Common signs health providers may encounter include:

  • Frequent emergency visits or requests for prescription refills
  • Physical symptoms of withdrawal or intoxication
  • Injuries that don’t match the explanation given
  • Noticeable decline in physical or mental health
  • Patient or family reports of stress, depression, or anxiety

How Health Providers Can Make an Impact

  • Screen Early. Use validated tools like SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment). Utilizing available resources is key.
  • Respond with Compassion. Patients are more honest and receptive when stigma is reduced.
  • Refer to Resources. Provide families with local treatment and recovery options.
  • Stay Trained. Participate in coalition-led workshops on overdose prevention, Narcan, and patient support strategies.
